In the eyes of a newborn professional, the world of jobs and working is a scary and intimidating place. All those years of studying, preparing, and learning are about to be tested on a whole new level. Anxiety and uncertainty kicked in as I took my first step into this world. The fears turned into curiosity, then excitement, and then anticipation for taking more steps. Those steps eventually led me to my internship with GetCre8ive! I realized that I needed to experience the corporate context of graphic designing. I wanted to be equipped with the knowledge and insight of what kinds of work are yet to be explored. So with this quest in mind, I charged towards an opportunity! GetCre8ive was looking for graphic design interns so I checked them out.
One thing that stood out to me was their core values. My pursuit of improving and growth and their strive for excellence clicked together for me. I submitted my application to the company and was fortunate enough to proceed to both interviews. The interviews made me realize how dedicated and passionate the team is to their company’s beliefs. Ms. Sam, one of my interviewers and soon-to-be mentor, was really friendly and engaging to talk with. She gave me a glimpse of the company’s culture, which made me really look forward to it. The second interview with Ms. Bel went really smoothly. I was a bit nervous to be interviewed by the chief curator, but talking with her wasn’t intimidating at all and I found myself feeling at ease to be my genuine self. It was a really happy day when I got accepted!
During the onboarding process, we were introduced to the team and got to know each other a lot through our personal mood boards. It was really fun! It felt like a tight-knit family looking out for each other. And that would prove true for the rest of my time here. Everyday, we would have a meeting for our daily goals, gratitude, and learnings. I found this very helpful with staying on track of my tasks. It also helped me be more accountable with my time. Every end of the month, there would be game nights. Game nights were really chill and a great way to spend time with the team, especially when prizes were there to keep the stakes high!
Ice Breaker winner of monday.com For Education Event
The projects I was involved in were in various forms of media. Aside from creating social media post designs, I was fortunate enough to be able to manage the social media stories, photography, and videos for the “Monday.com For Education” event and design the presentation template for Ms. Sarah’s “How to Build Your A.C.E. Game” webinar. I used Canva to create these beautiful graphics, as well as some of the company’s other templates.
I also illustrated some of the A-Team members into chibis as the brands they use! The key was to use Adobe Illustrator and highlight our team’s workflows. Another skill I learned from GetCre8ive was creating email designs through HubSpot’s system. It was a bit intimidating at first, but then I found that it’s very efficient and intuitive as I worked more into it.
Some of my graphic design projects
For our last big project, I collaborated with Ms. Sam, my fellow intern Gia, and our design associate Sir David, to create GetCre8ive’s new introduction video. Our mentors Ms. Sam and Sir David were a delight to work with as they really gave us a clear understanding of what steps were needed to accomplish and the directions we could take. We also brainstormed together every week during our alignment meetings to have a cohesive tone and look for the video.
GetCre8ive is truly a company of growth. Not only are their products and services helping businesses grow with the aid of technology, they also help you enrich yourself. Alongside the experience of using our technical skills, we were also given a boost on our self-development. I was able to get a certification on HubSpot’s Inbound Marketing, as well as a certification on the HubSpot Marketing Software. I was able to get a better understanding of my habits with the help of Ms. Sarah’s Saboteur test and session. Ms. Bel’s Points of You session was a very needed breather break from work. We were also invited to attend the coaching webinars and event streams, like the Inbound 2023 Convention live streams!
My graphic design internship journey with GetCre8ive has been an enriching experience. I highly recommend this company to my fellow college students who are looking to showcase their design skills while gearing up for the real workforce. The A-Team has a special place in my heart and I would love to carry out what I’ve learned from them for my future work endeavors.
