Cheska's Marketing Internship

My friends and I always say: choose growth over comfort. It's what we remind each other every time we start to second-guess ourselves about taking on opportunities and entering unfamiliar spaces. Sort of like a mantra, we repeat it until we finally decide to explore new grounds, apply for that position we've been eyeing, or surrender to overwhelming changes. In my case, I said it over and over again in the days leading up to my first day as a Marketing Intern.

From my first day at GetCre8ive up until this point in time (i.e. writing this blog), I've grown in more ways than one. I've noticed my growth in big ways: routinely waking up extra early in the mornings to make sure I've done what I need to before the Check-In call, managing my time better to make sure I substantially complete my tasks before Check-Out, and pushing my creativity everyday to brainstorm for new ideas. But it's also seen in the little moments of my 8-hour work day: in learning to swallow my nerves before important meetings, in polishing pubmats after receiving feedback, in introducing myself to new people. These past five weeks, growth looked different for me everyday, and is that not what it means to grow? To find different versions of myself that were only barely peeking through before this internship or even completely buried behind my apprehensions.

During my stay at GetCre8ive, true to its name, I was challenged to get creative. Majority of my tasks centered around creating publication materials. Writing copies was not something I was new to, so I was happy to play around with captions and emails. However, when it came to the visual side of my deliverables, I knew I was going to have a long day ahead of me. Thankfully, meetings with Sam (my Intern Experience Guide!) were always insightful and helpful when crafting my deliverables. She, along with the rest of the A-Team, was always patient and encouraging. They always took the time to check on how we (the interns) were doing and were never short on uplifting words. Safe to say, I learned a lot from them during my stay. It's been so inspiring to work alongside a team of great people who are not only driven and hard-working, but also kind and thoughtful. A team who not only leads innovation, but inspires it even more.

Innovation for the win, as they say. I know that to innovate means to introduce new methods and ideas; it means to make changes for the better. But what I've recently discovered, somewhere along those lines, it has another meaning: to choose growth over comfort.
